To catch you up in case you're confused: Marcia Reynolds, a secretary from Titan City on Earth, has been abducted by aliens. We'll see later that the being that kidnapped her is a drone slave of the shorter, big headed aliens. A 4H-Dim ray (meaning 4th Dimension, I suppose) was used to make the drone slave invisible so it could abduct humans with no interference.

What's in stall for poor Marcia? Find out on Friday!

I love this page. In a few panels we get a real sense of what this version of 21st century Earth is like. Everyone is obviously tested and cataloged according to multiple factors, including intelligence and mating potential. This is an interesting and sly dig on the emerging concept of eugenics by the writer.

And, of course, the art remains gorgeous.

The writing is heavy on two things: breathless, florid prose and 1940s style technobabble. "Radiascreen" is the least offensive technobabble term that will show up in the comic. Just wait until the aliens are introduced!

And that brings us to the end of this Betty Bates case! She's not going to let some lowlife mobster hold her hostage! She gives him a good whack. Then the judge gives him a nice gavel thrashing and, finally, the defendant throws in a punch for good measure.

Please join us on Friday when we'll start a new story. This time we'll be spotlighting Futura, a science fiction heroine very much in the mold of Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon.

The Golden Dames Project: Page 4: The Murder Weapon

http://goldendames.com/comics/6/

Because this story is only five pages long, the writer relied on a string of coincidences to move the plot along. First there's a convenient tree to save Ms. Bates from certain death. Then a couple of convenient Boy Scouts to pull her down from the tree. Then, after a long bike ride down the Jersey Shore she reaches the bad guy's hide-out, which she conveniently knows of. Finally, she finds the murder weapon, which the bad guy has conveniently kept at the hide-out.

All of this while in heels!

Still, the guy behind the door is the second gangster Ms. Bates has knocked out in this story. Say what you will, but she was a lawyer of action!

You may notice that Betty Bates doesn't actually appear on this page except in the title panel. That's because this is the "cold open" we so commonly see in police dramas like Law and Order and CSI, where the crime is committed. Don't let that stop you from commenting on the debut page of the Golden Dames Project!
